Eleuthera eats fresh from the sea. Conch (in salads, fritters, and chowders), grouper, snapper, and lobster turn up on every menu. The Friday-night fish fry at Governor's Harbour is the biggest weekly food event on the island — grilled fish, conch fritters, peas and rice, beer, and music. Smaller fish fries run at Anchor Bay (Gregory Town) on Wednesday evenings.
Beyond the fish fries, look out for Tippy's on the beach south of Governor's Harbour for casual lunches; The Cove Eleuthera for a more upmarket beachside meal; and the Rainbow Inn for an unpretentious Bahamian dinner. On Harbour Island, Sip Sip is the long-standing local favourite. Most independent restaurants on the island are family-run and may have shifting hours — call ahead.
