Governor's Harbour

Governor's Harbour is the largest settlement on Eleuthera proper and sits at the island's narrow waist. The town is built around a deep natural harbour — long the safest anchorage on the island — and a high ridge gives wide views east and west. The painted timber Anglican church on the hill, the small library on the waterfront, and the colonial-era custom house preserve the town's 18th- and 19th-century texture.

The Friday-night fish fry on the south end of the harbour is a fixed point in the island's social calendar: grilled snapper, conch fritters, music, and most of the resident community. The town has the only airport on the island with regular direct flights to the US, plus a small handful of hotels, cafes, and restaurants.
