Gregory Town

Gregory Town is a small Atlantic-side settlement of pastel timber houses on a low ridge, with a tiny harbour and one of the better stretches of Atlantic surf in the country a couple of kilometres south. The annual Pineapple Festival each June draws Bahamians from across the country.

The town has a few bars and small restaurants, including the famous Elvina's, where Lenny Kravitz has been known to drop in for jam sessions. The Hatchet Bay caves, a few miles south, are a worthwhile detour.

A story
Lenny Kravitz's mother was born in Gregory Town and the singer has long owned property nearby; the village's Pineapple Festival in early June is his occasional stomping ground. The pineapple industry that gives the festival its name peaked in the 19th century, with Eleuthera supplying most of Britain's tinned pineapple.
