Ocean Hole

A round inland blue hole on the edge of Rock Sound village, the Ocean Hole is essentially a vertical-sided sinkhole connected to the open sea by a flooded cave system. The water is clear, deep, and full of yellowtail snapper, sergeant majors, and the occasional tarpon.

Locals feed the fish from the small concrete observation platform at the rim. The water is fresh on the surface and saltier deeper down; swimming is possible if you are careful of the sheer walls. Free to visit, no facilities.

A story
The Ocean Hole was sounded to over 600 feet by the US Navy and never fully bottomed out. It is connected to the sea by underground passages — fish caught here include reef species you would normally see only on the open Atlantic side of the island.
