Preacher's Cave is a large rock cavern in the bush near the northern tip of Eleuthera, with a flat sandy floor and a natural rock formation that looks like a pulpit. A simple plaque marks the spot as the founding site of the Bahamas' first English settlement.
The cave is reached by a rough sandy road through pine forest; a 4x4 or a hire car with good ground clearance helps. The beach behind the cave — broad, white, and almost always empty — is one of the prettiest on the island. Combine with a stop at the wrecked French freighter Cienfuegos on the shore just east.
