Bay Street

The main commercial street of downtown Nassau, running along the waterfront from the cruise terminal in the west to Fort Montagu in the east. The historic stretch — roughly the first kilometre east from the docks — is lined with pink-and-white Loyalist-era buildings now occupied by duty-free jewellery shops, restaurants, banks, and the Straw Market.

It is busiest from 9 am to 4 pm when cruise passengers are in town; quieter on Sundays. The free Tourist Information Center sits in the small building marked "Welcome Center" near the cruise dock. Most of downtown's sights are within five minutes' walk of Bay Street.
