Things to Do

Between the forts, the markets, the beaches, and Atlantis on Paradise Island, Nassau can fill several days even if you ignore the cruise-ship circuit. The downtown sights — Fort Fincastle, the Queen's Staircase, Parliament Square, the Pirates Museum — are walkable from the cruise terminal in a single morning. The bigger experiences (Cabbage Beach, the Atlantis aquariums, snorkelling trips, the Cable Beach strip) are a short taxi or bus ride away. The most distinctive Bahamian thing to do happens in the streets: Junkanoo parades on Boxing Day and New Year's Day, when the city stays up all night for goatskin drums and brass.
