The west-of-downtown resort strip, running along West Bay Street from Saunders Beach all the way to the new Baha Mar complex at the western end. Named for the undersea telegraph cable that came ashore here in 1892. It is essentially a single road of hotels, restaurants, casinos, and beach access points.
Unlike downtown, this is a planned tourist zone — wider sidewalks, more landscaping, and a sequence of large all-inclusive resorts. The bus (jitney) marked Cable Beach runs from downtown along West Bay Street all day for a small fixed fare. The night-life is concentrated at Baha Mar and the Hilton; the daytime appeal is the long, calm Cable Beach itself.
