Lyford Cay

A private gated community at the western tip of New Providence, the most exclusive address in the Bahamas. The compound includes a marina, golf course, and a few hundred mansions belonging to a roll-call of celebrities, financiers, and exiles. Founded in 1959 by Canadian industrialist E.P. Taylor.

Lyford Cay itself is closed to the public, but the marina restaurants outside the gates are open and the surrounding coastline includes some of the best beaches on the island. The drive out from downtown along West Bay Street passes most of the major resort developments of New Providence — Cable Beach, Sandyport, Old Fort Bay — and is a useful orientation tour.
