Woodes Rogers Walk

The paved waterfront promenade between Bay Street and the harbour, named for the British privateer who became the first royal governor of the Bahamas in 1718 and ended the pirate republic of Nassau. The walk runs the length of the cruise-ship docks, with the Straw Market at the western end and Potter's Cay at the eastern.

Best at sunrise before the cruise crowds and the touts — it is a fine walk with the silhouette of Paradise Island to the north and the pink-and-white facades of Bay Street to the south. Several small bars and cafés open onto the walk; Pirate Republic Brewing is one of the better ones.
