Getting There

By air: Grantley Adams International Airport (BGI) is Barbados' only international airport, located on the south coast near Seawell, Christ Church — about 13km east of Bridgetown. It handles direct flights from the US (New York, Miami, Boston, Atlanta, Washington), Canada (Toronto), the UK (London Heathrow and Gatwick, Manchester, Birmingham), and several other Caribbean islands.

From the UK, flight time is around 8.5 hours. From New York, around 4.5 hours. From Toronto, around 5 hours. Airlines serving Barbados include British Airways, Virgin Atlantic, American Airlines, JetBlue, Air Canada, WestJet, and Caribbean Airlines, among others.

From other Caribbean islands: Caribbean Airlines, LIAT (though its operations have been reduced), and several smaller regional carriers connect Barbados with Trinidad, St. Lucia, Grenada, Antigua, and other islands. Inter-island travel is often more expensive than it looks on a map.

By sea: Bridgetown's Deep Water Harbour serves as a port of call for many Caribbean cruise itineraries. The port is a short walk or taxi ride from the city centre. Some people arrive by private yacht through the Bridgetown Port.

From the airport into town: Taxis are available outside arrivals and take roughly 30 minutes to Bridgetown, depending on traffic. Agree on a fare before getting in. You can also walk to the main road (about 5 minutes) and catch a bus heading west along Highway 7 toward Bridgetown.
