The Maple Leaf

One of Banff's most consistently acclaimed restaurants, occupying a two-storey room on Banff Avenue with exposed timber and a long bar stocked with Canadian whisky. The menu is built around Canadian and Albertan produce: Alberta beef tenderloin, Rocky Mountain game including elk and bison, local trout and char, and seasonal ingredients foraged or sourced regionally. The wine list leans toward BC and Ontario bottles with some international options.

This is the place to eat if you want one good meal in Banff — the kitchen is technically accomplished without being fussy, the service is professional, and the room feels appropriately grand for the surroundings. The bison short rib and the rack of elk are signature dishes. Book ahead for dinner in July, August, and the ski season; walk-ins at the bar are usually possible for lunch.

Address: 137 Banff Avenue, Banff.
