Grande Prairie Museum

The Grande Prairie Museum sits in Muskoseepi Park and is the city's main repository of regional history. Its outdoor heritage village brings together more than a dozen relocated buildings from the surrounding Peace Country — a one-room schoolhouse, a Hudson's Bay trading post, a tiny early church, a homesteader's cabin and outbuildings — arranged along plank walkways to give a sense of what the first decades of European settlement looked like up here in the early 20th century.

Inside, the indoor galleries cover the deeper natural history of the region, including a small but well-presented dinosaur display drawing on the same Pipestone Creek bonebed that fills the Philip J. Currie Museum down the road. There is also a serious collection of local pioneer and First Nations material. The museum is community-run, not large, but a good honest place to spend an hour or two if you want context on the Peace Country before heading north.
