Grande Prairie's sights are spread across a wide, flat landscape rather than concentrated in a walkable downtown. Muskoseepi Park threads along Bear Creek through the heart of the city and is the obvious place to start — a long green corridor with trails, the heritage village, the museum, and the historic playhouse all clustered around it. Beyond the park, the real reason to detour here is the Philip J. Currie Dinosaur Museum in nearby Wembley, built around the extraordinary Pipestone Creek bonebed. Add a stop at Saskatoon Island Provincial Park for the trumpeter swans and you have a respectable day out from the Alaska Highway.
