Mount Arrowsmith is one of Vancouver Island's best-known hiking mountains, rising east of Port Alberni with several routes to the summit. The walks are serious but non-technical, so fit hikers do not need ropes or climbing gear in normal summer conditions.
Routes include the historic 1912 Canadian Pacific Railway trail and steeper options for experienced hikers. Weather can change quickly on the mountain, so it is best treated as a real backcountry day rather than a casual viewpoint.
