Britannia Shipyards National Historic Site preserves the working waterfront of Steveston, where boatbuilding, canning and fishing communities overlapped on the Fraser River. Restored bunkhouses, workshops, docks and interpretive buildings tell a multicultural labour story that includes Chinese, Japanese, Indigenous and European workers.
It is one of Richmond's strongest heritage stops because the river setting still does so much of the work. Combine it with Steveston village and the Gulf of Georgia Cannery for a full picture of the old fishing economy.
