By air: Winnipeg Richardson International Airport (YWG) is 7 km northwest of downtown. Air Canada, WestJet, and several US carriers serve it directly. A taxi to downtown takes 15–20 minutes; transit is possible but slow (Route 15).
By train: Via Rail's Canadian — the Toronto–Vancouver transcontinental — stops at Winnipeg's Union Station on Main Street three times per week in each direction. The journey from Toronto takes about 36 hours. The station building (1911, Beaux-Arts) is a destination in itself.
By bus: Greyhound no longer serves Canada, but regional carriers including Rider Express and Manitoba Coach Lines connect Winnipeg with Regina, Saskatoon, and smaller Manitoba towns. Most intercity buses use the downtown terminal near the VIA station.
By car: Winnipeg sits at the junction of the Trans-Canada Highway (east–west) and Highway 75 south to the US border at Emerson/Pembina. From Regina it is 575 km (about 5.5 hours); from Thunder Bay, 700 km (7 hours).
