Gagetown is a small village on the Saint John River between Fredericton and Saint John. It is easily confused with the nearby military base at Oromocto, but the village itself is quieter and older: riverfront lanes, Loyalist-era stories, and a cluster of heritage museums.
The town's strongest claim is Sir Samuel Leonard Tilley, a Father of Canadian Confederation, whose family home is now the Tilley House Museum. Nearby, the Queens County Court House Museum and Loomcrofters Studio turn Gagetown into a compact heritage stop rather than just a pretty river village.
This is not a place to rush through with a long checklist. It works best as a slow half-day from Fredericton or Saint John: visit the museums, walk Front Street, look at the river, and let the village's low-key arts-and-history mood do the work.
