July and August are the warmest months and the best time to visit, with temperatures between 20 and 25°C and the longest days. The Bay of Fundy moderates extremes, but fog is common — a characteristic condition of the Fundy coast that can roll in at any hour regardless of the forecast. September is often excellent: the crowds thin, the light changes, and the foliage begins to colour in the hills around the city.
Winter is cold and snowy, with temperatures regularly below -10°C and heavy snow from December through March. The city is functional but not particularly visitor-friendly in winter. Spring is late by most Canadian standards; real warmth rarely arrives before late May.
The Buskers on the Square festival in August brings street performers to King's Square and the waterfront and makes for a lively few days. Fundy Trail Parkway, east of the city along the coast, is best in summer but walkable into October when the coastal scenery is dramatic.
