Halifax Seaport Farmers' Market

The Halifax Seaport Farmers' Market at Pier 20 on the lower waterfront is one of the oldest farmers' markets in North America, with roots going back to the 1750s when vendors set up at the Grand Parade. The current modern building, opened in 2010, operates every Saturday year-round, with additional days added in summer. The market runs from early morning until early afternoon and gets busy by mid-morning, so arriving before 10am means shorter queues and fuller selection.

The market sells Nova Scotia produce, local meats, artisan cheeses, bread, preserves, and seafood from Maritime fishers. Lobster rolls, chowder, and smoked fish are reliable choices for an on-site meal. There is also a strong craft section with jewellery, ceramics, and Nova Scotia-made clothing. It is one of the best places in the city to buy gifts that actually come from the region rather than from a souvenir shop. The market is right beside Pier 21, so the two are a natural Saturday morning pairing.
