July and August are the best months to visit Halifax. Summer days are pleasantly warm, with highs around 23C, and the city's festival calendar is in full swing. The Royal Nova Scotia International Tattoo in early July is a week-long spectacle of military bands and performers. Canada Day on July 1st brings tall ships to the harbour, fireworks, and concerts.
Halifax is milder than you might expect year-round thanks to the ocean, but it is also one of the foggier cities in Canada, averaging about a hundred days of mist per year. Winters are grey and damp rather than brutally cold. Spring is late and slow to arrive. Fall can be beautiful, with crisp weather and autumn colour in the surrounding countryside.
