St. George's Round Church is one of the most architecturally unusual buildings in Halifax — a circular wooden church with a circular interior, commissioned by Prince Edward in 1800 and still an active Anglican parish. The round design was rare for a Protestant church anywhere in the British world, and the interior, with its curved wooden gallery and circular pews arranged around a central pulpit, is genuinely striking. The building is a National Historic Site of Canada.
St. George's sits in the Brunswick Street area of the North End, a neighbourhood that has been gaining new restaurants and cafes over the past decade. The church is open for Sunday services and on weekdays during summer for visitors. The exterior is simple and elegant in white clapboard; the interior rewards the detour. There is also a small memorial garden beside the building.
