Cambridge sits in one of the more interesting corners of Ontario for day trips. Elora, about 25 kilometres northwest, has a dramatic limestone gorge and a preserved 19th-century village — the nicest day trip from Cambridge. Stratford, 60 kilometres west, is worth visiting for the Shakespeare Festival, which runs from April to November and stages productions well above the usual regional theatre level.
The Waterloo Region's Mennonite heartland is easily accessible by car: St. Jacobs, 20 kilometres north, has a large farmers market on Saturdays and a community of Old Order Mennonites who still farm with horses and buggies in the surrounding countryside.
