Art Gallery of Northumberland

The Art Gallery of Northumberland occupies the top two floors of Victoria Hall — a setting almost as worth visiting as the collection. The permanent holdings concentrate on Canadian art from the late 19th and 20th centuries, with a strong representation of the regional Northumberland Hills painters and a small group of Group of Seven and contemporary Indigenous works. Rotating exhibitions tend to be solid solo shows by mid-career Canadian artists.

Entry is free. The galleries are small enough to see in an hour, and the visit pairs naturally with a tour of the building itself — the ornate Concert Hall sits one floor below. Opening hours are limited (typically Tuesday to Saturday afternoons), so check before making a special trip.
