Guelph rewards a day or two of unhurried exploration. The downtown, built almost entirely in the local buff limestone, has a handsome Victorian solidity that distinguishes it from most Ontario cities of similar size. The Speed River runs through the centre, giving the downtown a green edge. The university contributes energy and good galleries. Beyond the city, the agricultural villages and Mennonite communities of Wellington County are among the most distinctive in Ontario.
