Longueuil's food scene is dominated by Québécois cooking, with a good range of casual restaurants and bistros along Rue Saint-Charles in Vieux-Longueuil and near the metro station. Prices are noticeably lower than equivalent places across the river in Montréal.
The south shore has a strong tradition of casual French-Canadian cooking: poutine, tourtière, smoked meat, and sugar pie all appear on menus here without any ironic framing. The city also has a significant Haitian-Québécois community, and there are several Haitian restaurants serving griot (fried pork), rice and beans, and plantains that are worth seeking out.
