Getting There

By air: Québec City Jean Lesage Airport (YQB) has direct flights to major Canadian cities and a growing number of US and European destinations. The airport is 20 minutes west of the Old City; taxis cost around CAD 35-40. Several US carriers operate direct flights from Boston, New York, and Philadelphia seasonally.

By train: VIA Rail connects Québec City to Montréal in about 3 hours; trains run several times daily. The Gare du Palais station in the Lower Town is a handsome Château-style building from 1916, itself worth a look.

By bus: Orléans Express operates frequent coach services between Québec City and Montréal (3.5 hours) and to other Québec destinations. The bus station is adjacent to the train station.

By car: Québec City is 250 km northeast of Montréal on the A-20 (south shore) or A-40 (north shore). The bridge at Québec City is the Pont-Pierre-Laporte (south) or the Pont de Québec (rail and shared road). Parking in the Old City is limited and expensive; if you're arriving by car, use the park-and-ride lots on the periphery.
