Pub Saint-Alexandre

English-style pub in the Old City with over 250 beer varieties

Address 1087 rue Saint-Jean, Québec City, QC G1R 1S3

The most serious beer bar in the Old City, a genuine English-style pub with dark wood panelling, a long bar, and over 250 beers in bottle and tap — including an outstanding selection of Québec microbrews alongside imports from Belgium, Germany, and Britain. The pub has occupied its spot on Saint-Jean since 1986 and has maintained consistent quality through the years of craft beer boom.

The food is honest pub fare (good burgers, fish and chips, mussels) and better than it needs to be given the captive audience. It's one of the few places in the Old City that functions well in all seasons — a refuge from tourist-trail exhaustion in summer, and a warm, beery antidote to the deep cold in winter. The staff know their beer.
