The covered market at the Old Port runs year-round (Saturdays and Sundays primarily in winter; daily from May through October) with stalls selling maple products, Québec cheeses, duck confit, local ciders and wines, and produce from the farms of the Laurentian and Charlevoix regions. It's the most concentrated place to buy regional food specialties in the city.
The maple section alone — multiple producers selling maple syrup, taffy, butter, and vinegar — is worth the walk from the Old City. The cheese stalls carry varieties from Québec's strong artisan cheese tradition, most of it unavailable outside the province. Bring a bag; the market is a reliable source of picnic supplies for the Dufferin Terrace or the Plains of Abraham.
