Moose Jaw

Saskatchewan railway city with bootlegging stories, prairie museums, murals, and a giant roadside moose.

Moose Jaw is one of Saskatchewan's stranger and more enjoyable small cities. It grew as a railway junction on the prairie, picked up a reputation for bootlegging during Prohibition, and now leans into that history with tunnels, murals, and a cheerful sense of theatre.

The city is close enough to Regina for an easy day trip, but it has enough to fill the day: the Tunnels of Moose Jaw, the Western Development Museum, Mac the Moose, and a handful of prairie-history sights south and north of town.

Moose Jaw is not polished, and that is part of the appeal. It is a prairie city with grain elevators, military aircraft, old brick streets, and roadside humour all rubbing against each other.
