Monte de la Cruz is a mountain park above Heredia, where cooler air, forest patches, picnic areas, and viewpoints make an easy escape from the Central Valley floor. On a clear day the views back over Heredia and San Jose are the main reward.
It is a local favourite rather than a polished national-park experience. Bring a jacket for the elevation, watch the weather, and treat it as a relaxed picnic-and-walk outing.
