Pan American Stadium

The Pan American Stadium (Estadio Panamericano) was built for the 1991 Pan American Games hosted in Havana and remains the city's main athletics facility. The stadium complex includes a velodrome, aquatics centre, and various training facilities, and has continued to host major sporting events since the games.

Baseball rather than athletics is Cuba's national obsession, but the Pan American Stadium hosts international athletics meetings and is used regularly by Cuban sports institutes. The complex is located near the coastal road east of Habana del Este, on the border of the San Miguel del Padrón municipality. The 1991 Pan American Games were one of the last major events at which Cuba competed as a dominant force — an era when the Cuban sports system, fuelled by Soviet support, produced Olympic and world champions across multiple disciplines.
