A small but effective museum set in a hilltop colonial building that was once the headquarters of the Batista regime's police in Santiago. The museum covers the urban underground movement that supported Castro's guerrillas in the Sierra Maestra during the late 1950s — the sabotage campaigns, the safe houses, the student networks, and the women who ran much of the logistics.
The displays are more nuanced than the official revolutionary narrative tends to be: the clandestine resistance was complex, dangerous, and often led by people who had no particular connection to Castro until late in the struggle. The view over the old town from the terrace is one of the best in Santiago. The building itself, painted in warm yellow tones, makes a pleasant walk up from the Parque Céspedes.
