Soroa is a thin village strung along the road into the Sierra del Rosario, west of Havana. It is not a town of plazas and museums. Its pull is greener and quieter: orchids, wet forest, a waterfall, and the feeling of being in the hills after the heat of the plain.
The two main anchors are close together at the upper end of the village. The Orquideario is a serious garden rather than a roadside flower stop, and Salto de Soroa gives you a short walk, water, and a swim when conditions are good.
Soroa is worth adding to a western Cuba trip if you want a soft nature day without going all the way to Vinales. Transport can be awkward, so it is best with a taxi, rental car, or a casa that can help arrange rides.
