Bars and Cafes

Puerto Plata's evening scene concentrates along the Malecón and in the streets around the central park. The waterfront bars are open-sided, loud, and oriented toward a mix of tourists and locals; the bars near the park are quieter and more neighbourhood-focused. Dominican rum — Brugal, made right here in Puerto Plata — is the obvious drink; order it on the rocks or in a standard rum and Coke (called a cuba libre locally).
