The Estadio Cibao is the home of the Águilas Cibaeñas, the most successful franchise in Dominican baseball and the heart of Santiago sporting life. The stadium has been in use since 1958 and seats around 18,000 — modest by major-league standards, but the atmosphere on a winter night when the Águilas play their archrivals from Santo Domingo is hard to match anywhere in the Caribbean.
The Dominican winter league runs from October to January, with a January final and a representative club going on to the Caribbean Series in February. If your visit lines up with a game, it is one of the best things you can do in the city. Tickets are cheap, beer is cheaper.
