By air, the Cibao International Airport (STI) is on the outskirts of the city and has daily flights to New York, Miami, San Juan, and other Caribbean and North American cities — often cheaper than flights into Santo Domingo or Punta Cana.
By car, the Autopista Duarte runs north from Santo Domingo to Santiago in about two hours; the road continues onward to Puerto Plata on the north coast (an hour from Santiago). It is one of the better roads in the country.
By bus, Caribe Tours and Metro Bus run frequent comfortable services from Santo Domingo (around 2.5 hours) and Puerto Plata. The Caribe Tours terminal is on Avenida 27 de Febrero, west of the centre.
