Museo del Tabaco

The Museo del Tabaco (Tobacco Museum) is a small free museum in the centre of Santiago dedicated to the history and culture of Dominican cigar production. The collection traces the industry from the colonial period through the Trujillo era and into the modern free-trade zone period, with displays on cultivation, curing, rolling techniques, and the major families who built the industry.

It is modest in scale but surprisingly engaging — the photographs of the old rolling houses and the tools of the trade are well presented, and the staff are happy to explain the process in detail. The museum is often attached to the cigar workshops of local brands and provides useful context before or after a factory visit. Entry is free or by small donation.
