Ski Touring and Dog Sledding

East Greenland has a well-earned reputation among ski tourers as one of the world's great winter destinations. From February to May, the sea ice is stable and the mountains above Tasiilaq provide excellent terrain for ski touring, with long descents, reliable snow, and the kind of silence that is simply unavailable in European resorts. The icecap provides extreme multi-day ski touring for experienced parties.

Dog sledding is still practiced here as a practical transport method, not just a tourist attraction — local hunters use it to travel across the sea ice to hunting grounds. Visitors can join guided dog sled trips that cross the frozen fjord to outlying settlements and into the mountains. The season runs from January to April, depending on ice conditions. Several operators in Tasiilaq offer package trips combining ski touring, dog sledding, and accommodation in local guesthouses.
