El Hato is a small mountain village above Antigua, roughly 200 m higher than the city. The draw is the cooler air, forest and coffee-plantation walks, and broad views back toward Antigua and the surrounding volcanoes.
It works best as a low-key side trip for travellers who want a quieter walk outside the colonial centre. Chicken buses run from Antigua's market area, but schedules can be irregular.
