The Iglesia San Francisco de Asís sits in the older, calmer part of town, a short walk uphill from the tourist strip. Its white facade and small plaza give a better feel for local Panajachel than the souvenir stalls near the lake.
It is a modest sight, but worth a look if you are walking through town rather than just transferring to a boat. Market days and religious festivals bring more colour to the surrounding streets.
