Choluteca is known throughout Honduras for its street food and inexpensive local cooking. Baleadas — freshly made flour tortillas filled with beans, cheese, chicken, or meat — are the local staple and available throughout the day from street stalls and small restaurants downtown.
Las Baleadas is a family-owned breakfast and lunch place downtown, opposite the Cooperativa Guadalupe. It serves excellent baleadas, chicken, meat dishes, fried plátanos, and soup at very low prices (around $1.50–$2.00 a plate). For dinner, the family runs a second restaurant in Barrio El Cortijo — ask any local and they will direct you.
