About 4.5 km east of Corozal along the coast road lies Sambo Creek, another traditional Garifuna village and a natural companion stop. It is slightly more visited than Corozal and has a small beach area with a couple of rustic comedores serving fresh fish. The village is home to a community of Garifuna families who have lived on this stretch of coast for generations.
The walk or short mototaxi ride between Corozal and Sambo Creek passes through a landscape of palm groves and small farms. Together the two villages give a rounded picture of Caribbean Garifuna life on the Honduran coast — calm, rooted, and utterly unlike the tourist infrastructure of La Ceiba just to the west.
