The Parque Nacional Montaña de Comayagua covers a large area of cloud forest and pine woodland in the mountains that surround Siguatepeque, and the town makes the most logical base for visiting it. The park protects the watershed that supplies water to much of the department, and it's an important habitat for quetzals, toucans and other highland birds.
Several trails enter the park from the Siguatepeque side, ranging from easy walks through pine forest to longer hikes into the cloud forest zone above 1,800 metres. Local guides can be arranged through the town; going with one is strongly recommended as trails are not always clearly marked. The park is best visited in the dry season (November to April) when paths are passable and visibility is good.
