Getting Around

Negril is compact and easy to navigate without a vehicle. The two main areas — Seven Mile Beach and the West End — are separated by the headland and connected by a road running through the small town centre.

On foot: The beach is walkable end to end in about 45 minutes at a gentle pace. The West End cliffs road is similarly manageable on foot, though it has less shade. Most visitors staying in one area walk wherever they need to go.

Bicycle: Bike rental is common and sensible here. Most guesthouses either rent them or can point you to a nearby rental shop. A bicycle lets you cover the full circuit — beach road north, through town, and down the West End — in an easy morning.

Route taxis: White mini-vans and cars run the length of Norman Manley Boulevard (the beach road) and West End Road continuously. Flag one down and pay the small fixed fare to go between sections of town. They are the standard local transport.

Private taxis: JUTA-licensed taxis wait at the hotels and can be hired for the day or for specific trips. Agree the fare in advance. They are the practical option for getting to the lighthouse or making a day trip further afield.

Scooter rental: Available at several spots on the beach road. A scooter gives you access to the area around Negril — the morass road, the lighthouse, the hills above town — without the cost of a car.
