Getting Around

Acapulco is long and thin, strung along the bay for about 20 kilometres from old town to the Diamante zone. Getting around requires some form of transport; walking the whole strip is impractical.

Taxis are the most convenient option. Agree on a price before you get in — meters are rare. From the Zócalo to the hotel zone costs around 60–80 pesos; to Pie de la Cuesta, double that. Taxis are easy to flag on Costera Miguel Alemán at any hour.

Colectivos (shared minibuses) run up and down the Costera all day for a few pesos per ride. They are marked by their destination in the windscreen and stop more or less on demand. They are crowded and not air-conditioned, but cheap and frequent.

Ride-hailing apps including Uber and InDriver operate in Acapulco and are generally cheaper than negotiated taxi fares. Coverage is best in the hotel zone and Diamante.

Glass-bottom boats for Isla La Roqueta depart from Playa Caleta and Playa Caletilla in the old town throughout the day.
