Five times a day (the 9pm dive, with torches, is the one to see), local clavadistas launch themselves from a 35-metre limestone cliff into a narrow channel of sea below, timing their leap to arrive just as a wave rushes in. The water is only 4 metres deep at its deepest. A ticket gives you access to the viewing platform; a mariachi-accompanied dinner at the adjacent restaurant gets you a ringside seat.
La Quebrada Cliff Divers
Divers leap 35 metres into a narrow sea channel
A story
The dives have been running since 1934, when local youths began leaping from the cliff for coins thrown by cruise-ship passengers. Each diver prays at a small shrine on the cliff before jumping.
