Agua Prieta lies directly across the border from Douglas, Arizona. The Douglas–Agua Prieta Port of Entry is open 24 hours and handles both pedestrian and vehicle crossings. From the US side, Douglas is accessible from Tucson (120 km) on State Route 80. US citizens entering Mexico must obtain a tourist permit (FMM) at the border if travelling beyond the free zone.
From deeper in Mexico, Agua Prieta is connected by bus to Hermosillo (6 hours), Chihuahua, and other Sonoran cities. The nearest commercial airport is Douglas Municipal Airport on the US side; international travellers with a longer stay in Sonora typically fly into Hermosillo or Tucson.
