Getting Around

Ajijic itself is small enough to walk everywhere — the town centre, plaza, and malecon are all within easy walking distance of each other. Local buses run along the lakeside road connecting Ajijic with Chapala and the villages to the west. For excursions to Guadalajara, car rentals are available, or take the hourly bus from Chapala. The expat community largely drives, and many long-term residents have cars. There are no taxis based in Ajijic proper but private drivers who can be hired for the day are not hard to find through local hotels and the Lake Chapala Society.
