Cabo Wabo Cantina is the most famous bar in Cabo San Lucas, opened in 1990 by Sammy Hagar — lead singer of Van Halen at the time — and named after a Van Halen song about the unsteady walk of a Cabo beach-goer. The bar launched its own premium tequila label in the late 1990s, which Hagar sold to the Italian spirits company Gruppo Campari in 2007 for $80 million, making it one of the more successful celebrity alcohol ventures of its era.
The bar itself is a large, loud venue on the Cabo Wabo strip, with live rock music most nights and a crowd that skews toward the 40-and-over bracket — older than the surrounding bars but more reliably raucous. The signature tequilas are poured at several price points; the añejo is worth the extra cost. Food is available and adequate. The atmosphere on a busy Saturday night is part-concert, part-party, part-theme park — entirely Cabo, for better or worse.
